Two apps, not one
The question was simple. Is there one app that teaches home calisthenics, tracks the work, and keeps the form honest? Two of those three are solved and given away free. The third is not solved, and the product category that claims to solve it is measuring the wrong thing. This is what the search actually returned, and the setup to run instead.

Programming, logging and progression are a finished product. Several free apps do all three well, and the best of them ship a routine that thousands of people have already run. That half of the problem you can stop thinking about today.
Form is the other half, and nothing on the shelf closes it. The reason is specific, it is technical, and it is worth understanding before paying anyone.

Pick one. Running two is worse than running neither.
The value of a log is that it is complete. Two apps means two partial histories, and the progression rule below cannot read either of them. The same argument rules out switching apps in month two.
Nearly every page titled "Best Calisthenics App 2026" is published by one of the apps it ranks. Fitloop's comparison page puts Fitloop first. GainStrong's blog puts GainStrong first. Gymscore's blog names Gymscore the best form checker. These are advertisements with a table in them, and they dominate the search results for this exact question.
Pose estimation finds joints. It does not find faults
The AI form check category is real and it works the way its own documentation says: a model reads roughly 33 body landmarks from a two dimensional video, builds a stick figure, and measures the angles between the points. Everything it can tell you follows from that one capability, and so does everything it cannot.

- Shoulder blade position in a pull-up
- A hollow trunk against an arched one
- Elbow path relative to the torso
- Whether you are bracing at all
One camera also cannot resolve depth reliably.
A two dimensional landmark set is a projection. Rotate slightly toward the lens and a joint angle changes without the joint moving, which is why these tools are strongest on the plane facing the camera and weakest on everything else. The faults listed on the right all live in the axis it lost.
The right hand column is the list of faults that injure elbows and shoulders. A checker that scores those reps as clean is not neutral, it is confidently wrong on the exact reps that matter. Use it for a rep count if you like it. Do not let it tell you your form is fine.
The camera you already own, and one fault at a time
Manual video comparison is unglamorous and it works. Film the set, put it beside a reference clip of the same exercise, and look. The tools that do this well are old and cheap: Onform or Hudl Technique on a phone give slow motion, frame stepping, drawing on the body and a genuine side by side. Kinovea does the same free on a desktop. The slow motion mode in your Photos app already gets most of the way.

Name one fault. Only one.
Choose one cue for it, for example "squeeze the glutes" or "elbows to 45 degrees".
Apply the cue next session, and record again.
Correct three faults at once and you correct none.
A cue works by occupying attention. Three cues share the same attention and each gets a third of it, so the movement changes slightly in three places and settles back within a week. One cue per session is slower on paper and faster in practice.
Move to the harder step when you do three sets of eight clean reps, on video, on two different days.
Clean means the written form standard, not "I finished the reps". Without this rule people stay too easy for a year or move up too fast and meet their elbows.
The stack, in order

- Onform once a week for form. One set, one comparison, one fix. This is the step nobody does and it is the step that decides the outcome.
- A human coach for one month, at around month three, when your faults are worth correcting. Asynchronous video review runs roughly 50 to 150 dollars a month. No software replaces this yet and the AI checkers are not close.
Step two costs about ten minutes a week. It will do more for the result than any other choice on this page, including which app you picked in step one.

Push, squat and core need no equipment at all. Pulling needs a bar, and skipping it builds a visible shoulder imbalance in about three months. A doorway bar costs little and needs no drilling. Gymnastic rings are better long term but need a high anchor. That is the whole equipment list.
