Version 4 · 2026-07-17 · Round 4 — everything except the magnifying glass

What if it isn't a magnifying glass at all?

Before the final pick, eight concepts from entirely different doors: the mascot (the fox is the finder), the name (noon — the hour when nothing hides), the feeling (remember for me), and the treasure hunt. Same discipline as every round: one symbol, two colors, judged at true sizes, with honest reads — three earned a place on the decision board.

The wildcards

Eight doors, three worth walking through

W2: a fox tail curling into a question mark
W2 CONTENDER

The tail question

A fox tail curling into a question mark — "where is it?" and the fox in one stroke. Reads ? first, fox second, exactly right. The most elegant idea of the whole exploration.

W8: a fox peeking over a box rim
W8 CONTENDER

The fox in the box

Ears and eyes over a box rim: "it's in here!" The personality winner — playful, warm, category-literal (your stuff lives in boxes), and nobody has anything like it.

W1: a geometric fox head
W1 CONTENDER

The pure fox

A bold geometric head — a real mark, Firefox-territory ambition. Says brand, not function; see the fox-field evidence below before choosing it.

W6: sun at noon above a sitting fox
W6 CHARM

Noon sun + fox

The name story — at noon, nothing hides. Lovely and storybook-warm, but it's an illustration more than an icon; the fox mushes at 29 px. Save it for the brand, not the tile.

W5: house emitting radar arcs
W5 SKIP

The ping

Executed cleanly — but the arcs read Wi-Fi, so the icon says "smart-home app," not "find your stuff."

W3: string tied around a finger
W3 SKIP

String on the finger

Warm and universal — but it promises a reminders app, and hands go muddy at small sizes.

W4: X marks the spot with dotted trail
W4 SKIP

X marks the spot

Bold — but on a phone, a big X means close, delete, error. Wrong instinct to trigger on a Home Screen.

W7: light beam and dot
W7 SKIP

The beam

Meant as a flashlight finding an item; reads as a comet. Abstract lost the argument.

Due diligence

The fox field — crowded, but your lane is open

Fox marks are famous company: Firefox (orange fox on blue), Foxit, NordVPN's mascot, Khan Kids. And GitLab's trident mark (no iOS app to pull) is fox-adjacent orange. But none is a flat white fox on a safety-orange field — the combination stays unclaimed.

Our three fox candidates next to Firefox, Foxit, NordVPN and Khan Academy Kids icons.

Best E (eyes open)

Where I land after four rounds: for pure App-Store clarity, B3a. For a mark you'll still love in five years, W2 — the tail question is the only candidate that says find, says fox, and belongs to no one else, all in one stroke. W8 is the charmer if you want personality over polish.

How to finish

One word ships it

final: W2 ← or B3a / X2 / W8 / W1 / X1 / E2c
→ Recraft vectorize → exact #FF6A00 → 1024 master + all sizes
→ Icon Composer (Mac) → light / dark / tinted .icon → Xcode

Masters: candidates/round-4/ · Round-4 cost ≈ $0.55, total ≈ $2.40 of $10.
