Story 6 — the rustling sounds

You heard at least three. The audit found none — we had no detector that could see this kind of sound, so it was never a case of missing them. It was never looking.

This is a first attempt at one. It looks for stretches that are loud enough to notice, weighted towards the high frequencies where fabric sits, and with no pitch in them — a voice has a pitch, cloth does not. It found 24 candidates.

Some of these will be breaths, not cloth. A breath is also high-frequency, also has no pitch, and also sits in a pause, so the detector cannot yet tell them apart. That is what your ear is for.
